Make Rightsholders’ Voices Heard: Enhancing effective Grievance Mechanisms in Mineral Supply Chains

Organised by German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) – Global Programme Initiative for Global Solidarity (IGS) and Sector Programme Extractives and Development Effective and accessible grievance mechanisms play a critical role in managing social and environmental risks in mineral supply chains and in enabling access to remedy for workers. Only if implemented well, they can ensure the rights and well-being of rightsholders in affected communities. The session will discuss the role of grievance with a focus on experiences and voices from Peru, South Africa and Indonesia. The discussion will also be informed by the fresh results of a study on the effectiveness of existing Grievance Mechanisms in mineral supply chains providing access to remedy for rightsholders in large-scale mining.
