Description
Ms. Hanny Cueva Beteta has more than 25 years of experience in development economics, governance, gender equality and women’s empowerment, conflict and peacebuilding, crimes that affect the environment, action against transnational organized crime and illicit drug production and trafficking, among others. She has more than 15 years of experience with the UN System at headquarters, regional and country locations.
She is currently serving as Head of the Global Programme on Crimes that Affect the Environment in UNODC (Vienna, Austria), where she leads the development, implementation, fundraising and management of operations of the programme with presence in over 40 countries.
Prior to her current role, she worked as UNODC Chief Regional Section for Latin America and the Caribbean; UN Women’s Regional Adviser on Governance, Peace and Security for Asia and The Pacific (based in Bangkok, Thailand); Policy Adviser for the Peace and Security team at UN Women Headquarters (NYC, USA), and Gender Adviser (functional head) of the UN Women office in Peru.
A national of Peru, Ms. Hanny Cueva Beteta holds a BA in Economics by the Universidad del Pacifico in Lima, Peru and a MPhil in Development Studies by the Institute of Development Studies, Sussex University, United Kingdom.
