Description
Désiré Alphonse RAKOTONDRAVALY (EngD), Director General of Mines at Madagascar's Ministry of Mines, has nearly 20 years' experience in the Malagasy mining sector. He initially worked as a consultant on a joint government-World Bank project on environmental management in Madagascar's mining sector, starting in 2006. He continued his career at the Ministry of Mines in 2011 as Director of the Gold Department, in 2019 as Director of Mines in the Analamanga, Itasy and Bongolava regions, in 2021 as Director of Mining Operations Monitoring, and since 2022 as Director General of Mines. He has specialized in Malagasy mining legislation and governance of the mining sector; environmental monitoring of mining activities, including ASM, gold and minerals value chains; as well as remote sensing applied to geological surveys and the monitoring of mining operations.
