Establishing a shared due diligence approach for responsible Madagascar mica mining and sourcing

Organised by Pact, the Responsible Mica Initiative (RMI) and Terre des Hommes Netherlands (TdH NL) This partner session, led by global non-profit Pact in collaboration with the Responsible Mica Initiative (RMI) and TdH NL, will examine ongoing efforts to improve responsible mica production and sourcing in Madagascar against OECD Due Diligence Guidance and other international frameworks. An esteemed panel will speak from respective viewpoints on dynamic and challenging issues including nascent efforts to address supply chain risks, and ensure acceptable labor conditions for all actors in the supply chain – including the most vulnerable groups. The panel will feature the Minister of Mines from Madagascar, President of the Association of Mica Exporters (AEPI) Madagascar Anosy chapter, representative of a major automotive company and voices from 3 iNGOs already working in Madagsacar to support development efforts for the mica sector. The panel will focus on (i) stakeholder coordination on policy, regulations, and due diligence for responsible mica production, (ii) upstream and downstream engagement and financing on ASM formalization and standard setting, and (iii) community-led interventions addressing child labor and other supply chain risks.
