Description
Johanna Sydow heads the International Environmental Policy Division of the Heinrich Böll Foundation. Her main expertise lays in resource policy and corporate accountability. She is also a member of the Resource Commission of the German Environment Agency .
Between 2014 and 2022, she was Senior Policy Advisor on Resource Policy at the NGO Germanwatch. She accompanied the development of various due diligence legislations and analysed their impact on producing countries, specifically on right holders. She has written numerous analyses and policy papers and the German Parliament has invited her several times as an expert to hearings. She has looked more deeply how to reduce our resource consumption, into certification schemes and environmental due diligence and was part of the OECD Expert Group to develop a Practical Tool on Environmental Due Diligence in Minerals Supply Chains. Previously, she conducted research on mining in Ghana, Peru and Ecuador and studied International Environmental Policy (University of Sussex) England and Sociology at Bielefeld University. She has also worked for the University of Sussex (England), Universidad Andina (Ecuador) and the NGO Misereor.
