Mr. Ewon Benedick (born 1 August 1983) currently serves as the Minister of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development (MECD), since December 2022. He is both a Member of Parliament and State Legislative Assembly Member. Prior to serving at the federal level, he was the Sabah Rural Development Minister from 2018 to 2020. He is also presently the youngest member of the Malaysian Cabinet.
Mr. Benedick began his career as a Research Executive at the Institute for Indigenous Economic Progress Sabah while continuously developing and advancing strong ties with his grassroot communities. Combining his sound experience with passionate leadership, MECD under his stewardship will continue to create a holistic and conducive entrepreneurial ecosystem to support Malaysia’s inclusive, sustainable, and competitive development agenda. This includes a focus on uplifting marginalised communities, including cultivating entrepreneurship amongst the youth, women, the B40 community, people with disabilities, rural and remote populations, minorities, and local communities.
He received his Bachelor in Computer Science (Software Development) from the Malacca Technical University of Malaysia (UteM) in 2005.
