Marian Jurečka

Minister of Labour and Social Affairs

Marian Jurečka graduated from Mendel University in Brno with a degree in Plant Pathology (specialising in plant protection). During his university studies he began to do business at family farm and later became head of an agricultural chemical distribution centre. In October 2012 he was elected as a regional councillor of the Olomouc Region. He defended his mandate in the regional elections in 2016 and subsequently in 2020. He has been serving as Member of the Czech Parliament since 2013. He was appointed as Minister of Agriculture in 2014-2017. In 2021, he was appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Labour and Social Affairs of the Czech Republic in Petr Fiala's Cabinet. He also briefly served as Minister of the Environment in 2022-2023 and as Minister of Regional Development in 2024. In 1999, he joined the Czech Christian and Democratic Union (KDU-ČSL). He was elected Deputy Leader of the Party in 2011, and later First Deputy Leader. He was leading the Party in 2020-2024. Mr. Jurečka is married and has five sons. He plays the tuba and the pan flute, organizes benefit concerts, and is a lifelong scout.
