Description
Dr. Matthias Weber is Head of Center for Innovation Systems & Policy at AIT Austrian Institute of Technology in Vienna and Visiting Professor at Université Gustave Eiffel (UGE) near Paris.
He has a background in process engineering, political sciences and economics, and has been working for more than twenty-five years on the analysis and evaluation of RTI policies, on generic and cross-cutting matters (e.g. R&D collaboration networks, transformative governance, mission-oriented R&I policy) as well as on the transformation of specific socio-technical systems (e.g. in ICT, mobility, energy, security, manufacturing). As part of his work, he also contributed to several OECD activities.
Matthias has long-standing experience with the development and use of foresight methods to support policy strategy development, and in particular with their embedding of foresight in policymaking. He was member and co-chair of the RISE HLG (Research, Innovation and Science Policy Experts High-Level Group, 2014-2017), advising the European Research Commissioner, chair of the ERA 2030 expert group of German Ministry for Education and Research (2019-2020). He is also a member of the High-Level Group on Innovation Policy, advising the European Council.
