Mr. Ossi Nurmi
Ossi Nurmi is a senior statistician in Statistics Finland. As team leader, Ossi is responsible for the compilation of official tourism statistics in Finland, including Accommodation statistics, the Finnish travel -survey and the Tourism satellite account. Ossi has over 10 years of experience in the field of tourism statistics and has participated in several national and international projects related to statistical development. These projects include the implementation of both national and regional tourism satellite accounts in Finland, experimental statistics on holiday home rentals, nowcasting and forecasting of inbound tourism as well as pilot studies in mobile positioning data. At the start of the covid-19 pandemic, Ossi developed a scenario model for tourism demand together with key Finnish stakeholders. The model was regularly updated to provide timely estimates on the economic impacts of the pandemic for tourism industries. During 2017 – 2020 Ossi served as chair of OECD Working party on tourism statistics. Prior to his career in statistics, Ossi worked as a consultant and project manager in the private sector. Ossi graduated from Helsinki School of Business in 2004 as a Master of Science in Economics.
