Alan Smith is Senior Advisor - ESG Risk and Inclusion at HSBC where he helps shape their global management approach to ESG risks. He is a member of HSBC’s ESG Steering Committee which is responsible for shaping the bank’s sustainability strategy. From 1 October 2021, Alan has been appointed as the First Church Estates Commissioner of the Church of England, which was one of the founding members of the Transition Pathway Initiative.
Over the last two years he has successfully shaped and led the execution of setting up of HSBC’s Global Climate Risk organisation and risk management strategy, establishing several of the key foundational building blocks in areas of overall climate risk management and driving capability building globally.
Alan is the Chair of the Systemic Resilience Forum of the Coalition for Climate Resilient Investment, a flagship COP 26 Initiative which is a multi-industry, multi-region, public/private coalition, to produce the necessary solutions to enable increased finance investment flows into the building of climate resilient infrastructure globally, in particular emerging markets and vulnerable economies.
