Description
Dr. Nurudeen Alhassan holds MPhil. and PhD degrees from the Regional Institute for Population Studies at the University of Ghana. Dr. Alhassan has over 10 years’ experience in population research, policy and practice across several sub-Saharan African countries and he is currently a Senior Research and Policy Analyst at AFIDEP, where he has been since 2018. His current role at AFIDEP involves project management, policy analyses and synthesis and packaging of research evidence to a range of audiences, policy engagement and capacity building for policymakers, researchers and practitioners. His research interests are broadly in the intersections of population dynamics, health including sexual and reproductive health, gender, environment/climate change and development in Africa.
Dr. Alhassan currently provides technical and administrative oversight for two projects on climate and health: Accelerating Climate Action for Health and the Regional Climate and Health Policy for Resilient Health Systems in Africa. He is also the local Co-Principal Investigator and Project Manager of the Exemplars in Global Health project on Family Planning. In addition, he recently provided technical leadership for the “Policy Analysis and Research Uptake” component of the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM)-led Partnership for Increasing the Impact of Vector Control (PIIVEC) which was implemented in Burkina Faso, Malawi and Cameroon. He specifically led the regional policy/stakeholder analysis as well as the activities to strengthen the capacity of the Vector Control Advisory Groups (TVCAG) to demand and use evidence for integrated vector control in order to reduce vector-borne diseases.
