The lawyer Markus B. Jaeger was born in 1974. Before studying law in Gießen and Bonn, he was trained as a reserve officer (current rank: Lieutenant Colonel) in the German Armed Forces (paratroopers), starting in 1993. He gained international military experience in 2003 with a six-month NATO deployment abroad. Jaeger was already active in politics during his studies. In total, in addition to his own political activities, he worked as a staff member for members of parliament in Bonn, Düsseldorf and finally Berlin from 1998-2018. The main topics in 20 years of political activity were economy and energy, transport and digital infrastructure, education and research, European policy as well as law and consumer protection. On 1 June 2018, Jaeger took over the establishment of the new policy division in the technology organisation VDE - Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies. Based in offices in Berlin and Brussels, Jaeger is responsible for the VDE's activities in national and international politics. In addition to his role at the VDE, Jaeger has been Chairman of the Board of Directors of EUREL - the federation of national associations of electrical engineers in Europe - at the Brussels location since 2019. In his spare time, Markus B. Jaeger is active in German baseball.
