Ambassador, Permanent Delegation of the Republic of Korea to the OECD
Presentation
Ambassador Il Whan An took up his duties as Permanent Representative of Korea to the OECD on 16 March 2022.
After a few years as a Senior Public Sector Specialist at the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) (2003-2005), Mr. An has held a range of positions in the Korean government. His experience included notably several Directors positions at the Ministry of Planning and Budget (MPB) as well as in the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MOEF) from 2005 to 2017. In 2019, Mr. An became Deputy Minister for Budget and in 2020 he was appointed 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MOFF). Before retiring at the end of 2021 Mr. An became Senior Presidential Secretary for Economic Affairs, Office of the President (2020-2021).
Throughout his career, Mr. An has been mainly engaged in economic policy and is an expert in financial affairs.
Mr. An holds a BA. in International Economics and a M.A. in Public Administration from Seoul National University, as well as a M.A. in Economics from the University of Ottawa. He also holds a Ph.D. in Public Administration, The Catholic University (Seoul).
Mr. An is married and has a son and a daughter.
