Description

Dr Justine Lacey is Director of Responsible Innovation at the Commonwealth Scientific & Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), Australia’s national science agency. This research program delves into the critical intersection of science, technology, and the complex ethical, social, and legal challenges posed by emerging and disruptive innovations through an applied scientific lens. It spans a wide array of fields, from digital and genetic advancements to the large-scale environmental technologies that are reshaping our world. Before stepping into this leadership role, Justine guided a team of social and economic scientists developing adaptive solutions for Australian communities and industries. With a background in philosophy, her own research has explored the foundations of the minerals industry's social license to operate, extending this concept to other resource management areas like forestry and agriculture. Justine’s unique blend of philosophical inquiry and applied science drives her commitment to ensuring that innovation not only progresses but does so responsibly and ethically.
