Description
Born in 1961, Mr. Kanai joined Sumitomo Trust and Banking in 1983 and worked in the London branch, the Pension Investment Department, and other departments before joining the Corporate Planning Department in 2003.
He led the formation of a department for sustainability and has been in charge of the group’s overall sustainability activities since 2005. Since April 2018 he has been a Fellow Officer and the Chief Sustainability Officer. Recently, he developed the first ESG(SRI) fund for corporate pensions, launched environmental real estate operations, developed financial gerontology operations, developed the world’s first positive impact fund with unspecified use of funds, and formed a technology-based finance team, etc. In 2011 he became the first chairperson of the steering committee for the Principles for Financial Action for the 21st Century and is currently a steering committee member as well as the chairperson of its Community Support Working Group.
He is also a member of the “Regional ESG Finance Promotion Taskforce” of the Ministry of Environment, the “Impact Investing Roundtable” of the Financial Services Agency, the “SDGs for Regional Revitalization Finance Study Group” of the Cabinet Office, etc.
