Description

Simon has been the Head of the OECD’s Climate, Biodiversity and Water Division since November 2014, providing its 37 member governments with analysis and advice related to climate change, biodiversity, water and sustainable finance. Before joining the OECD, Simon was the founding Policy Director at the Grantham Institute for Climate Change and the Environment at Imperial College London (2007-14) and a member of the Imperial College Management Board (Pro Rector International, 2011-13). Simon played a leading role in the creation of the EIT’s Climate Knowledge and Innovation Community (“Climate KIC”) and was a member of its advisory board (2011-14). Previously, Simon was a British diplomat and served in a variety of senior roles both in London and overseas. Simon joined the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 1986 and also worked at the Bank of England (1998-2002) and the UK Ministry of Defence (1988-1991). Simon has a doctorate in theoretical physics from the University of Sussex, an MSc in Financial Economics from the University of London and a BSc Joint Hons (First Class) in Physics and Philosophy from the University of Bristol. He is a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG) and a Fellow of the Institute of Physics.
