Description
Combining climate action and nature conservation
Healthy ecosystems are a natural defence against climate change. Forests and floodplains, soils and peatlands, seas and water bodies, and urban and rural near-natural green spaces remove carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere and store it for the long term. Nature-based climate action combines climate change mitigation with nature conservation. It specifically counteracts the dual crisis of global heating and biodiversity loss. To this end, Germany'sFederal Ministry for the Environment has presented the Action Plan on Nature-based Solutions for Climate and Biodiversity.
