Ian Smith has over 25 years’ experience in international trade and investment across a broad range of industries and multiple disciplines. Ian previously served as Australian Trade Commissioner based in Chicago with responsibility for 13 states in the mid-west region of the United States. Ian is well known for his expertise in investment attraction, export, regional economic development, manufacturing, and strategic partnerships. In his current role, Ian leads the only fully dedicated regional Investment Promotion Agency in Australia, providing targeted assistance to investors to establish and expand in regional NSW. He was also instrumental in developing an Australian-first investment attraction strategy focussing specifically on regional areas. Ian is extremely passionate about creating community wealth in regional Australia by assisting businesses to compete in an increasingly globalised marketplace.
