Description
Cristián Rodríguez-Chiffelle is Senior Advisor for Boston Consulting’s Group Global Advantage and Public Sector practices, working on foreign direct investment (FDI), international trade, trade/FDI and environment, and economic development, based out of Boston, MA. He is too visiting scholar and Luksic Fellow at Harvard University’s David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies in Cambridge, MA.
Before joining BCG and Harvard, Cristián was CEO of InvestChile, the nation’s foreign investment promotion and attraction agency. His experience also includes acting as senior international consultant on nearshoring at the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB), and as head of international trade and investment policy at the World Economic Forum in Geneva. Previously, he served as trade and environment lead negotiator and investment negotiator at the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile, where he also negotiated other international agreements on investment (both bilateral investment treaties and investment chapters within free trade agreements), services, air transport and climate change including at the UNFCCC.
On Investment, Cristián has also been a delegate to the G20, UNCTAD, UNCITRAL, and to the investment committees of APEC (IEG and CTI) and the OECD. At the OECD, he was also Chile’s lead delegate to its joint working party on trade and environment, and later to the OECD IPA network and the investment committee, as CEO of InvestChile. At UNCITRAL, Cristián actively participated in the 2010 UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules update process and future iterations.
Cristián currently serves on several boards including at the Chilean Economic Development Agency (CORFO), Start-Up Chile, and the global Climate Governance Initiative (CGI). He has published six book chapters on trade and FDI issues, teaches and speaks regularly on these topics, and is about to publish (London, 2024) his first co-edited/co-authored major book “The Elgar Companion to the World Trade Organization,” focusing on trade and investment facilitation, digitalization and geopolitical tensions in connection with the WTO.
Cristián holds an LL.B from the University of Concepcion (Chile), where he is qualified to practice Law; master’s degrees in Law (LL.M) and in Public Administration (MPA) from Harvard Law School and the Harvard Kennedy School (where he was an Edward S. Mason Fellow), respectively; and an executive masters in Global Leadership by the World Economic Forum, where he remains a Global Leadership Fellow. He is a national of both Chile and Switzerland, and is based out of Cambridge, MA.
