Regional Programme for the Promotion of Women's Entrepreneurship - Phase II

The general goal of the second phase of the "Regional Program for the Promotion of Women's Entrepreneurship in Central America and the Dominican Republic (PREFEM II)" is to contribute to the establishment of a regional environment that is favorable to the equitable participation of women within the economic fabric of the Central American Integration System (SICA) region, all under an institutional environment that fosters their economic autonomy. This objective will be achieved, among other things, on the condition that "the women entrepreneurs covered by the Micro, Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (MSME) business development ecosystem increase their activities and their level of economic autonomy, thanks to the public and private business development services offered to them by the interlinked regional ecosystem.

Reduction of Adolescent Pregnancies in the Afro-descendant, Creole, Garifuna and Miskito communities in selected municipalities of the Central American Caribbean Coast

The project is designed to address and mitigate adolescent pregnancies within marginalized communities along the Central American Caribbean coast. To achieve this objective, three strategic axes have been established. The first axis centers on the dissemination of information to young people through sexual education workshops conducted both within schools and in community settings. The second axis entails collaboration with health centers and their personnel to ensure the availability of essential medical equipment and contraceptive methods, alongside comprehensive training for staff. Finally, the third axis is dedicated to the cultivation of leadership skills among the youth, empowering them to articulate their needs effectively in the future. In conjunction with these efforts, the project also supports a data collection initiative aimed at establishing a robust monitoring mechanism for teenage pregnancies in these marginalized communities.

Enabling a financial inclusive ecosystem that contributes to the reduction of gender gaps in access to capital and markets in the Northern Triangle – Inclusive Financial Ecosystem (IFE) programme

Through this financial inclusion project in Central America, Luxembourg aims to establish an inclusive financial ecosystem that contributes to reducing gender disparities in access to capital and markets. Spanning three years (2022-2025), this project makes a significant contribution in the following areas: I. Access to financial services, incorporating innovations in the delivery of both financial and non-financial services to women entrepreneurs. II. The relevance of financial inclusion for women is enhanced through the development of a monitoring and impact measurement model. III. Access to and utilization of financial products and services for women are increased through the promotion and technical assistance in innovative practices and competitive models.

Migrant women protection in Central America and the Dominican Republic: resilience and gender- based violence prevention (phase ii)

The project aims to promote the protection, resilience, and economic empowerment of migrant women through the enhancement of green livelihood recovery by integrating them into strategic frameworks in Central America and the Dominican Republic. Workshops and high-level events are organized to raise awareness regarding the challenges faced by migrant women, as well as to inform decision-makers on methods to improve their systems to better protect and integrate migrant women into their respective societies.

Female Entrepreneurship Fund

The FEF aims to strengthen the financial inclusion of women entrepreneurs in the SICA region and improve their access to financial products and services, enabling them to seize more market opportunities and thereby contribute to the region's development. Alongside the fund, a technical assistance programme will be set up. Its aim is to support the financial institutions in which the FEF invests, as well as the women-led SMEs that are clients of these institutions. By combining financial and technical support, the purpose is to demonstrate that it is possible to innovate, as a financial institution, to include the women-led SMEs segment in the investment portfolio, without damaging it.
