Description
Economist and historian from Florida International University, where he earned a Magna Cum Laude distinction. He holds a master's degree and a doctorate in economics from Michigan State University.
Before joining the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, he served as Director General of the National Tax and Customs Directorate (Dian).
His professional career includes teaching and research on economic development and public economics, which led him to publish academic papers in international journals such as World Development; the Revista de Economía Institucional and the Economics Bulletin.
He was an economist at the Federal Communications Commission of the United States; visiting professor at Grand Valley State University in the United States and assistant professor and associate professor at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana.
Between 2015 and 2022 he was a columnist for El Espectador and in 2018 he became co-founder and first director of the Fiscal Observatory of Pontificia Universidad Javeriana.
He has been a member of the Advisory Committee of the Research Program of the Colombian Institute for the Evaluation of Education (ICFES) and a member of the Board of Directors of the Pension and Parafiscal Unit (UGPP).
