Description
Jeannette Jara Román was born on April 23, 1974 in Conchalí, Santiago, Chile. She is a public administrator and lawyer from Universidad de Santiago de Chile (Usach) and Universidad Central, respectively. She also holds a master's degree in management and public policies, also from Usach.
During her tenure as Minister of Labor and Social Security, important legislative achievements have materialized, based on the tripartite social dialogue between employers, workers and the Government, among them, the progressive reduction of the working day to 40 hours per week; the law for the Conciliation of Work, Personal and Family Life; the gradual increase of the minimum wage and the law for the prevention of violence and harassment at work; law derived directly from Chile's ratification of ILO Convention 190; also, ILO Convention 176 was ratified.
She is currently promoting the Pension Reform proposal before Parliament.
She served as Undersecretary of Social Security during the second term of President Michelle Bachelet.
She has had an outstanding career as a student and social leader. In 1997 she was president of the Federation of Students of the University of Santiago (Feusach) and, later, when she was working as a public administrator in the Internal Revenue Service, she was a union leader of the Association of SII Auditors (AFIICH), where she held various positions.
She began her political training at the age of 14, after joining the Communist Youth (JJCC). In 1999 he joined the Communist Party (PC) and, since 2015, he is part of its Central Committee.
