Description

With studies in physics and mathematics at the Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira, specialist in Labor Law from the University of Toledo (Spain) and Master in Educational and Social Development from the Universidad Pedagógica Nacional, the Minister of Labor, Gloria Inés Ramírez Ríos is recognized in Colombia and abroad as a defender of Human Rights and workers' demands. The senior official was born in the municipality of Filadelfia (Caldas) and in her professional and political career she has held positions of great influence in society. She was president of the Colombian Federation of Education Workers (Fecode) and was a member of the Executive Committee of the Central Unitaria de Trabajadores de Colombia (CUT). She has extensive academic experience and was a consultant for international organizations. She served as vice-president for Latin America and the Caribbean of the International Federation of Democratic Women, a consultative body of the United Nations that monitors the peace agreements. She was elected Senator of the Republic for the Polo Democrático party for the 2006-2010 legislative period and during this period participated as co-author of laws on the Economy of Care, the Rosa Elvira Cely Law (feminicide) and the Labor Risks System.
