Description

Ms. Cindy Quesada Hernández is the Minister for the Status of Women, since May 8, 2022, of the Chaves Robles Government (2022-2026). Ms. Quesada has a Bachelor's Degree in Law and has extensive experience as a mediator and consultant in gender issues, decentralization, conscious leadership, efficiency and profitability of organizations through process improvement. Within her professional experience she has served as a promoter of social assistance networks, facilitator of legal advice and permanent ad honorem advisor to the Municipal Women's Offices (OFIM). She has worked on women's empowerment issues, promoting women's political participation and the development of their capacities and skills. She served as proprietary Councilwoman of the Municipality of Moravia from the period 2010 to 2016, actively participating in the Permanent Municipal Commission on the Status of Women, she also held the position of District Councilwoman in the period 2006-2010. She is the founder of the first Network against domestic violence and the Care Network for the Elderly, both in Moravia. She was part of the group of women politicians who founded the Women's Front of Political Parties of Costa Rica, a space from which concrete actions have been promoted that allow the participation of women in political life in conditions of incidence and equality. She was also the founder of the Municipal Women's Network (RECOMM). Currently, she is a member of the Board of Directors of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, WILPF COSTA RICA (WILPF). She currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Council of the Young Person, member of the Presidential Sector of National Security, representative to the National Commission against Smuggling of Migrants and Trafficking in Persons, representative to the Commission for the Promotion of Employment and FIDEIMAS, inter-institutional coordinator of the National System for the Prevention and Attention of Violence against Women, Member of the Presidential Social Council, and gender representative to the CIM, SEGIB and COMMCA. As Minister for the Status of Women, she coordinates the inter-institutional political management on gender issues and the continuous work in favor of the full enjoyment of women's rights, as well as the coordination process for the attention and prevention of violence against women.
