Financing cities was the theme for the final day of the OECD Urban Days, sessions included:

Financing the Cities of Tomorrow: A Shared Responsibility: explored cutting-edge solutions for financing the urban infrastructure to accommodate population growth and adapt to climate change, drawing lessons from two new OECD reports.

Harnessing City-to-City Partnerships to Finance Urban Development: discussed how city-to-city co-operation can facilitate access to investments for sustainable urban development, highlighting the role of national governments and international organisations.

Real Estate Investment in a Changing Climate: A deep dive into the challenges and opportunities climate change brings to the real estate investment sector, including new requirements, sources, and applications of data, and strategies to leverage and direct private investment at scale.

Daily Digest #3 Sustainable Cities Day

Day 3 of the OECD Urban Days focused on Sustainable Cities, events included:

Local Action, Global Impact: Towards a Global Stocktake on SDGs Localisation -Leaders introduced an OECD–UN Habitat initiative to review 10 years of SDG localisation and guide future local action.

SDGs in Action: Impact Stories from Cities and Regions - Local leaders shared SDG integration stories; Basque Country’s pilot report highlighted place-based progress.

MASTERCLASS #2: “The Geopolitics of Climate” - This masterclass explored climate leadership in cities, showing practical gains in transport, housing, and food systems.

Spotlight on SDG 13 “Climate”: A Territorial Approach to Climate Action and Resilience (TACAR) - Reflected on 10 years of local climate action, with insights from new OECD TACAR pilot studies.

Spotlight on SDG 14 “Life below water”: A Territorial Approach to the Blue Economy -Ahead of the UN Ocean Conference, cities shared lessons on building sustainable, inclusive blue economies.

Daily Digest #2 Circular Cities Day

Day 2 of the OECD Urban Days was a deep dive into circular cities. Events included:

Closing the Loop: Circular Economy in European Cities and Regions: A new report shed light on circular economy practices, challenges, and opportunities in cities and regions of the EU, urging action across people and firms, policies and places.

Circular Cities and Regions in Action: Insights from 10 Policy Scans: Five circular economy scans revealed cities often lead national efforts, but broader cooperation and aligned governance are key to scaling progress.

MASTERCLASS #1: “The Proximity Revolution” explored proximity-based urbanism as a pathway to resilient, inclusive cities, through people-centred services and accessible public spaces. 

Deep Dive #1: Beyond Bricks – Circular Buildings for a Greener Tomorrow: Focused on reducing whole-life carbon in buildings, financing challenges, and examples of national and local circular policies. 

Deep Dive #2: From Drain to Gain – Rethinking Water in a Circular Economy: Explored circular water strategies—efficiency, reuse, and resource recovery—based on findings from 10 Latin American countries.
