Forum 2020 Series - Schooling in times of COVID-19

OECD Forum Series
Schooling in times of COVID-19

10 September 2020

The COVID-19 crisis has forced school closures in 188 countries, disrupting the learning process of more than 1.7 billion children, youth, and their families.
This virtual discussion will focus on the fact that while the absence of traditional schooling has had deep and lasting effects on educational outcomes, students’ engagement with the school system, and their well-being, the current context also offers an opportunity to reinvent learning, through for instance blended modalities of teaching and learning, extended learning time and learning opportunities for all students, and a greater personalisation of education. Equally important is the profound disparity in access to digital technologies, connectivity and skills and the need to close this gap to make sure that disadvantaged members of our societies are indeed able to benefit from 21st century education, where participation is increasingly mediated by access to technology.
