Many countries are responding to climate change by supporting the ‘green transition’ i.e., a shift toward more carbon- and resource-efficient economies. Climate change, as well as mitigation and adaption measures, present new challenges for social protection (e.g., potentially large-scale relocation of people) and intensify existing ones (e.g., job losses). Countries must therefore consider whether their social programmes are up to the task.

• What key social protection tools should be embedded in strategies for a fair green transition?
• If new policy tools are necessary, how can these be funded?
