Uldis Augulis
Minister for Welfare
Mr Uldis Augulis is the Minister for Welfare of the Republic of Latvia (Greens and Farmers Union), and his responsibilities include social protection, employment, labour law, and family and children's rights. Mr Augulis's political path in national politics commenced in 2006 when he first became a member of the Parliament of the Republic of Latvia (Saeima). He has been elected to the Parliament in every election since then.
Over his political career, Mr Augulis has held numerous positions, including Minister for Welfare (2009-2010, 2014-2016, and since 2023), Minister for Transport (2010-2011, 2016-2019), Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Welfare and the Ministry of Agriculture. From 2018 to 2022, he was the Head of the Saeima’s fraction of the Greens and Farmers Union.
Before being elected to the Saeima, Mr Augulis was active at the municipal level and, from 2000 to 2006, chaired Bērze Municipality Council. He was a Member of the Council of Latvian Association of Local and Regional Governments (2001 –2006) and Representative of Latvia at the European Committee of the Regions (2003–2006).
Mr Augulis holds a degree in Financial Management from the University of Latvia. Before entering politics, he worked in the farming business.
