Secretary of State for Social Security

Borja Suárez Corujo has been Secretary of State for Social Security at the Spanish Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration since mid-2022. He previously held the position of Director General of Social Security for Normative Regulation. He holds a PhD in Law and a degree in Law and Political Science from the Autonomous University of Madrid. His professional career has been closely linked to teaching and research in the field of Labour and Social Security Law, and he is the author of numerous publications on public pension systems. In the field of public administration, he has held various positions of responsibility in which his reformist character has stood out, which has led him to achieve various important agreements within the framework of social dialogue. Among the measures implemented, the reform of the contribution system for self-employed workers, the improvement of the sustainability and equity of the pension system, the reduction of the gender gap, and the most recent: the changes in the pension system to improve the compatibility between work and retirement. As a public manager, he is characterised by his strong commitment to the development of public policies to protect the Social Security system, the results of which can be measured through objective indicators that allow the effectiveness of these measures to be assessed for continuous improvement. His leadership is oriented towards building a fairer, more diverse and cohesive society, resolutely promoting equal opportunities for all people, with an approach based on equity and inclusion.
