Giulio Federico is Head of the Unit in the Chief Economist Team (CET) of DG Competition, European Commission. During his time at the European Commission, he has coordinated the CET's work on numerous in-depth merger investigations and on several antitrust matters.
Prior to joining the European Commission in 2011, he worked in economic consultancy for 10 years and was a Vice President at Charles River Associates. He is a guest Professor at the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics, and was the President of the Association of Competition Economics in 2014 and 2015. He holds an MPhil and a DPhil in Economics from the University of Oxford (Nuffield College).
He has published a number of academic and policy papers in the field of competition policy, including several recent articles on dynamic competition and innovation in merger control (most recently: “Antitrust and Innovation: Welcoming and Protecting Disruption”, NBER, forthcoming, joint with Fiona Scott Morton and Carl Shapiro).
