Description
Organised by: Business and Human Rights Association (BHRTR) - Türkiye
Gender inequality remains a significant issue in Türkiye, particularly within industries like the garment sector, where women make up a large portion of the workforce. The Kahramanmaraş earthquake in 2023 exacerbated gender inequality by disrupting supply chains and amplifying vulnerabilities such as job loss, reduced income, and increased caregiving responsibilities at home. Marking the two-year anniversary of the Kahramanmaraş earthquake, this session will offer a critical lens on how gender disparities have worsened post-disaster by presenting on-the-ground insights, highlighting the urgent need for gender-responsive due diligence in the garment supply chains to ensure equitable recovery and sustainability, and offering recommendations for integrating gender-sensitive approaches into supply chain management.
