Description

Ambassador Khondker M. Talha, a career diplomat, prior to his present assignment, served as Director General for the East Asia and Pacific Wing in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dhaka. He also worked as Chief of Protocol and in the South Asia and Multilateral Economic Affairs Wings in different capacities. Among his various overseas assignments, Ambassador Talha served as Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh in London. He was also posted to the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations in New York where he was responsible for the Economic and Financial Committee of the General Assembly, ECOSOC, UN Funds and Programmes among other issues. He served at the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh in Geneva where he dealt with UNCTAD and WTO issues. There he coordinated the LDC Group at the expert level at both UNCTAD and WTO. Prior to his assignment in Geneva, he acted as the Deputy Chief of Mission in Tehran. He was elected vice-chair of the UN Committee on Population and Development during his tenure in New York and Rapporteur of the 99th Council of the International Organisation for Migration while in Geneva (2010). He is presently a sherpa of the High Level Steering Committee for Transforming Education. At UNESCO, he chaired the Asia-Pacific group. He currently chairs the UNESCO Committee on Non-governmental Partners. Ambassador Talha holds a Masters degree from the University of Dhaka, an MBA from the Institute of Business Administration, University of Dhaka and a Masters in Foreign Affairs and International Trade from the Monash University, Melbourne.
