Description
Mr. Kong Athit is a prominent Cambodian trade union leader known for his tireless advocacy for garment workers' rights. He began his career as a washer at the Tack Fat factory and joined the Coalition of Cambodian Apparel Workers' Democratic Union (CCAWDU) in 1999. Despite being dismissed in 2001 due to his union activities, he continued volunteering and was elected as CCAWDU's General Secretary in 2002. Over the years, he has played a pivotal role in expanding CCAWDU to represent approximately 30,000 garment workers, focusing on improving working conditions, promoting women in leadership, and building international solidarity. In August 2023, he was re-elected as CCAWDU's President for a second term, further cementing his leadership within the organization. Additionally, in May 2024, Mr.Kong Athit was elected as the President of the Cambodian Labour Confederation (CLC).
