8th OECD Forum on Green Finance and Investment

Promoting gender equality and women's economic empowerment through green policies and finance

Oct 13, 2021 | 10:45 AM - 11:45 AM

Description

Evidence shows that women are generally more vulnerable to the effects of environmental degradation, are more conscious about environmental risks and more sensitive to sustainable management of natural resources. Yet the relationship between gender equality and environmental sustainability is an emerging area of research that is often overlooked and lacks systematic data collection and monitoring. Moreover, evidence gaps exist on the extent to which green finance, sustainable finance and ESG investment systematically integrate gender-related considerations. This session will spur discussion around opportunities and challenges for a systematic integration of gender-related factors in national climate actions as well as green finance instruments and approaches. It will highlight good practice examples on aligning green financing and green infrastructure investment with gender equality and women’s economic empowerment goals. It will also discuss whether and how recovery plans and stimuli have effectively focused on addressing gender-differentiated environmental impacts as well as promoting female participation in key sectors of the green and blue economy. This session will benefit from the support of the Government of the United States.
