S Irudaya Rajan
Biography
Dr. S. Irudaya Rajan is the Chair of the International Institute of Migration and Development (IIMAD), India, and editor-in-chief of the Migration and Development (Sage). Formerly a professor at the Centre for Development Studies, India, he brings over 35 years of expertise in migration research having overseen and served as Principal Investigator in multiple large-scale migrations and ageing surveys in India. Since 1998, he has led the Kerala Migration Survey (KMS) along with K C Zachariah (Founder President, IIMAD), most recently completing its 9th round in 2023. Zachariah-Rajan Kerala model of large-scale migration surveys have been replicated in several states like Goa, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Odhisa, Punjab and Tamil Nadu. Professor Rajan has collaborated and consulted on multiple projects with international organizations, including the European Commission, the Asian Development Bank (ABD), the International Labour Organization (ILO), World Bank, the International Organization of Migration (IOM), and the Social Science and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). His extensive research portfolio spans over 75 projects with a cumulative budget exceeding ₹20 crores. Dr. Rajan has published widely in both national and international journals, focusing on the demographic, social, economic, political, and psychological dimensions of international migration. Additionally, he serves as the editor of two Routledge series: India Migration Report and South Asia Migration Report.
