Description

José Carlos Oliveira was born on October 25th, 1965. He has spent his whole life in São Paulo, where he has also studied and worked since a very early age. He holds a bachelor degree in Business Administration from Alvares Penteado Trade School Foundation. He joined the Brazilian Public Administration in 1985 as a civil servant from the National Social Security Institute – INSS. While in INSS, he was the head of the São Paulo unit until 2003, when he requested a formal license. He was elected a city councilor in São Paulo for the 2008-2012 term. During his license period, he also worked as a businessman in the construction industry. In 2016 he resumed his career in INSS as the Supervisor for the Southeast region and, later on, the Director for Benefits. In November 2021, he has been appointed the President of INSS. Since March 2022, Mr. Oliveira has been the Brazilian Minister responsible for labor, employment and social security. With almost 40 years of expertise in this realm, he has underlined 3 priorities for his tenure: (i) valuing personnel; (ii) restructuring in-person, careful social security assistance and (iii) digital transformation in the labor market.
