Biography
Maaike de Langen is a Senior Policy Advisory at the OECD where she leads strategic programs and initiatives on access to justice and people-centred justice systems. She is also a Visiting Scholar with the Justice Futures project at Arizona State University and a Senior Fellow at New York University's Center on International Cooperation. Maaike started her career at the Van Vollenhoven Institute for Law, Governance, and Development (Leiden University) conducting socio-legal research in Mali and later worked for UNDP in Chad on governance and human rights. At UNDP HQ in New York she had a key role in drafting the Report of the Commission on Legal Empowerment of the Poor. Back in the Netherlands, she was first advisor to the National ombudsman for eight years, creating and leading the Department for Strategy and Policy. In 2018, she joined the Pathfinders for Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies at NYU, and its Task Force on Justice, to oversee the research for the Justice for All report. She subsequently founded and directed the Pathfinders for Justice Program until 2022, creating the Justice Action Coalition, the Ibero-American Justice Alliance and the Young Justice Leaders, and publishing the Justice in a Pandemic briefing series, amongst others.
