Description

Yannis Foustanakis was appointed as the Secretary General for Public Administration of the Ministry of the Interior on July 2024. He served as Head of the Strategic Planning and Behavioral Analysis Directorate of the National Transparency Authority from October 2019 to July 2024. From his post, he participated in the development and coordinated the implementation of the National Strategic Anti-Corruption Plan 2022-2025, which is cited as good practice by the European Commission, while his contribution is also recognized in improving the country's performance in the OECD's public integrity indicators. Before this post, he served in the Ministry of National Economy and Finance, where he was appointed as Head of the Organizational Unit of the Human Resources Directorate for about two (2) years, while in 2018 he was seconded as an expert in DG Reform in Brussels. From 2012 to 2014 he was seconded at the General Directorate of Public Sector Human Resources and in various positions at the former Ministry of Administrative Reform and e-Government, actively participating as an expert in the design, implementation and monitoring of administrative reform in the context of the Greek economic adjustment programme. His career in the public sector started in 2009 at the Public Employee Social Security Fund on subjects pertaining to financial management. Prior to his appointment in the public sector, he had worked for almost four (4) years in the private sector, first as an assistant internal auditor, then as an internal auditor, as a quality manager in a telecommunications company and also in a professional promotion company. He has extensive work experience in human resources management and development, administrative process redesign, organisational change, goal setting, strategic plan development and implementation, anti-corruption, transparency, accountability and integrity. He has cooperated with international and domestic experts in the context of both EU financial supervision programmes and technical assistance projects. He has represented the institutions he has served in both international and domestic conferences and fora, and has participated in numerous working groups, as well as in human resources and top- management posts selection committees in the public sector. He was born and raised in Heraklion, Crete. He holds a degree in International and European Studies, a Master's degree in "Business Law and Economics in the New International Environment" from Panteion University and he is a graduate of the Department of Economic Management of the National School of Public Administration and Local Government. He is fluent in English and French. He is a marathon runner and in his free time he enjoys mountain hiking.
